Why I love Deutsch Perfekt
I must admit, this is a personal thrill for me, too, as I have subscribed to this magazine since the very first issue. In 2005 I was teaching English in Germany and I was using English as a Foreign Language magazines from Spotlight Publishing. They announced they were starting a German magazine, so I subscribed as quickly as I could fill out the postcard. I didn't even care how much it cost. I just wanted a magazine written for me as a German learner.
Every month I'd wait anxiously for this magazine to arrive, to test my German and to read articles written specifically for German language learners. I could already speak German fluently, but it didn't matter--Deutsch Perfekt connected me to other people for whom German was a foreign language. I only really had German friends and they didn't know where I was coming from. Deutsch Perfekt knew!
Now that I've lived in the US again for these past 7 years, Deutsch Perfekt keeps me connected to Germany, helps me build a connection to Austria and Switzerland, and helps me maintain my German skills. Some of my students subscribe to Deutsch Perfekt and we use the articles in their lessons.
Deutsch Perfekt has three different difficulty levels of articles, so whether you are a beginning, intermediate, or advanced learner, you will find articles that interest you and are at your comprehension level. Every article has a short glossary with key word definitions so you get the help you need to understand the article without having to leave the page.
And I must admit, I don't collect anything like key chains, t-shirts, or DVDs like a lot of other people. I collect Deutsch Perfekt issues...here's a shot of my bookshelf from this morning, November 9, 2015. 10 years of Deutsch Perfekt!
