Guten Tag!Business German

In Doing Business with Germans Part 1 and Part 2 we talked about what to do and what NOT to do when doing business with Germans.

But do you know how to do business with Germans in German? Do you really speak their language? Or are you relying on their English skills?

Demonstrate your willingness to meet them halfway and begin learning German. It's a boon for your business relationship and your personal resume!

One of the best ways to better your relationship with your German-speaking colleagues and business partners is to conduct your business in German. Imagine their surprise when you open a conference call with

"Guten Morgen allerseits! Hoffentlich haben Sie ein schönes Wochenende gehabt. Wir wollen dann heute folgendes besprechen..."

(Good morning everyone! Hopefully you had a nice weekend. Today we want to discuss...)

It's friendly but most of all it's efficient. Germans *love* efficiency and they just don't do much small talk.

When you are learning Business German, your course or lessons should be concentrated on things directly related to doing business:

  • appropriate greetings
  • making appointments and changing appointments when needed
  • giving diplomatic responses
  • adapting to Germanic work culture
  • giving the all-important presentation!

In business, it's not only the bottom line that counts, but the every-day ways in which you build a relationship with German customers, vendors, and business partners.
